<Master Class>

Béla Tarr, a master director from Hungary, has graced Hand Printing event and Master Class. He is an influential director to contemporary filmmakers with works such as Satan’s Tango (1994) and The Turin Horse (2011). His Hand Printing event took place at Outdoor Stage of BIFF Village Haeundae on October 5, and the Master Class was held at Wolseok Arthall the following day.

All the 5 sessions of Meet the Guest: Talk to Talk this year were successfully closed. Bertrand Bonello (France, Oct 3), Andrey Zvyagintsev (Russia, Oct 5), Abu Shahed Emon (Bangladech, Oct 5), Mostofa Sarwar Farooki (Bangladesh, Oct 5), Régis Wargnier (France, Oct 5), and Kim Ki-duk (Korea, Oct 5) were invited to this special event and shared cinematic views with audiences.

<IM Kwon-taek>

The press conference for Gala Presentation selection Revivre took place at Wolseok Arthall on October 5. Headed by the master director Im Kwon-taek, the leading actor Ahn Seong-gi, and actresses Kim Qyu-ri and Kim Ho-jung livened up the press conference stage. Director Im Kwon-taek’s 102nd film Revivre illustrates the light and the darkness of life and fear and desperation about death on the screen.

The Asian Film Market (Oct 5 - 8) successfully kicked off on October 5 with the record number of 3,740 visitors on its first day.

On October 6, AND (Asian Network of Documentary) Special Discussion was held with Joshua Oppenheimer as the guest. Joshua Oppenheimer is known for his controversial documentary The Act of Killing, and visited Busan this year with his new documentary The Look of Silence which was screened in this special talk.

<Happy Hour for New Currents Filmmakers Guests>

Happy Hour for New Currents Filmmakers was held in BIFF Hill, Busan Cinema Center on October 6. Directors from various countries including Taiwan, China, Japan, Philippines and Korea, invited to the New Currents section gathered around to have a luncheon. New Currents is a section devoted to showcase young talent expected to play leading roles in the Asian film industry.

Cocktail Party with Flash Forward – Audience Award Candidates took place at Open Lounge, BEXCO Exhibition Hall 4 on October 6. Non-Asian rookie directors who were selected for the Busan Bank Award candidates joined the party. The recipient of the Busan Bank Award selected by audiences will be supported with distribution support in Korea.
